I'm getting through the backlog of US rum release

Another nice, quiet Sunday evening with a lively glass of rum. This is a 26 YO Jamaican rum from New Yarmouth distillery bottled in 2021 by UK IB Blackadder at 66.8%.

This is one of many (many, many, many..) 1994 New Yarmouth casks that have emerged from a warehouse in Liverpool over the last few years, though it does seem like the releases have slowed or stopped now.

New Yarmouth distillery is in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica... But this isn't Clarendon distillery. New Yarmouth is a different distillery that produces important components of Wray and Nephew rum, and is also the home of the new stillage treatment facility that's key to relieving the current market shortage of Wray and Nephew (production has been cut until they're able to handle their waste). New Yarmouth is also a distillery that's not easy to get in to see, several rum luminaries have tried and failed.

Blackadder's Raw Cask series is a fairly unique product. Casks are dumped but not filtered at all, chill or otherwise. Very large chunks of cask char are removed but otherwise bottles may contain a little or a lot of charred cask bits. I can't think of another bottler who does the same, but it's a unique and eye-catching way to demonstrate that their product is absolutely raw and unfiltered.

Cut the grass, cleaned up more mess in the backyard.. now it's time to relax on the front porch with a new bottle - a single cask from @leopoldbros selected by the great folks at @thebottleshopga . It's a 4 YO straight bourbon bottled at (what else) 50%.

This is the first barrel pick of Leopold Bros whiskey I've had, and it does not disappoint. Their regular straight bourbon release is great, and I need to do a side-by-side to see how this compares and what's different. I know I say that a lot, but I have a bad memory for these details...😂

The Bottle Shop is a fantastic store, easily the best in Columbus, GA. Aside from great whiskies, they also have a great rum selection. I saw two recent Foursquare ECS releases on the shelf as well as a good selection of Velier Clairins and Hampden Estate rums. I miss having them nearby, but I was fortunate to be traveling through Columbus last weekend.
