Upcoming US Rum Releases of Interest — August 2023

Here are some upcoming rum releases for the US market approved in July 2023. These are only label approvals recorded at the US TTB, there’s no news on when these will actually hit stores (though a few are already available for pre-sale online). Anything else filed in July that’s approved in August will be included in next month’s report.

This post covers rum label approvals from July 2023. I don’t include flavored/spiced rums. This month we have releases from Rolling Fork, Barbancourt, Hampden Estate, Dillon, Goslings, Monymusk, Privateer, Raising Glasses, Bayou, Grander, Virago, and Royal Cane as well as several new brands from Mauritius and Indonesia and a new rum and clairin from Haiti as well as new Panama rum releases from Kirkland (Costco).

It looks like we’ll be seeing a followup to last year’s 8 Marks Set of unaged rum. A year later, and we have a set of the 8 marks after a year in bourbon casks! I’ve written more on this release here. The label for HLCF is in progress.

Monymusk (NRJ)

I think this is more of a rebrand/label refresh than a launch, though I’m not sure if I’ve seen Monymusk sold on the shelf in the US before, so this could be a new launch here. It’s a different label than used in overseas markets. The NRJ team brought these two bottles to Tales of the Cocktail last week to sample.

Not sure who this is from, could be a new independent bottler. This is the first time I’ve seen a spirit from Indonesia labeled as a rum instead of an arack, it’ll be interesting to see how this turns out. I assume that they’re not just labeling an arack as a rum because they also took care to not add anything to it or chill filter it.
